Skateboarding and Leadership Team

This year S.A.L.T. has been re-imagined into four 10-week long “bites” each with a specific focus that cultivates the leadershipemployment- Readiness, and civic engagement of youth in the greater Tacoma community.

We are Currently Accepting Sign-ups for SALT Bite 1: Skateboard Manufacturing

This program is an innovative opportunity for youth to learn and grow through skateboarding.

S.A.L.T. engages participants in activities in which they might not otherwise be exposed to including: retail job readiness skills, art and design basics, and production/manufacturing skills.

This program connects youth with community leaders and government officials, providing opportunities to share ideas and experiences while building employment and social skills which benefit youth long after program completion.

Some of the activities/Skill Building opportunities provided to Members of the S.A.L.T. program: 

  • Bite 1: Skateboard Manufacturing - Learn about how skateboards are made - from pressing and shaping, to graphic application and finishing work, you will get to create your own custom board!

  • Bite 2: Skateboard Advocacy - Learn about how to advocate for, support, and engage with the public processes around skateboarding, and the legality of skateboarding and skateboard transportation.

  • Bite 3: Skateboard Club - Learn how to become a certified Alchemy Skate Instructor and help out at Alchemy skate events, camps, and classes. Go on trips in the Alchemy van to various skateparks and explore all that the PNW skate scene has to offer!

  • Bite 4: Graphic Design - Lean to design and create custom logos, graphics, and create your own gear utilizing screen printing, vinyl sticker plotters, and more to bring your brand to life!
